Solar Process Heat: "It all depends on the conventional heating equipment"
Dr Bastian Schmitt can look back at more than ten years of experience in the field of solar process heat. As part of his doctoral thesis, the mechanical engineer developed a classification system for the integration of solar thermal systems providing process heat on industrial premises.

Austria: Optimising of Large-scale Collector Fields
One key aspect of the energy and cost optimisation of large-scale collector fields (called arrays in this news) is collector array hydraulics. Optimal connection is achieved when (1) the costs and length of the connecting pipes is small, (2) the pressure drop over the entire array is low and (3) there is homogeneous mass flow distribution across the entire field.

The Ins & Outs of Integrating Solar Heat into Industrial Processes
October 13, 2015. Solar Heat for Industrial Processes (SHIP) is an important, upcoming market for solar thermal. To support the growth of this technology the IEA SHC Programme and IEA SolarPACES Programme, working with experts in this field, developed guidelines that describe in detail how to incorporate solar heat into industrial processes.

IEA SHC Task 49: Solar Process Heat Showcase in Montpellier
Industry participation is key for the research work of IEA’s Solar Heating and Cooling Programme. Hence, the researchers of Task 49, Solar Heat Integration in Industrial Processes, used the last meeting in France in mid-September to hold a one-day workshop dedicated to Solar Heat Integration in Industrial Processes (SHIP) in cooperation with French start-up Energy Service Company Sunti.

IEA SHC: Attractive Solar Process Heat Markets
The most comprehensive online database of solar process heat projects is the website www.ship-plants.info. The database was set up within Task 49 Solar Process Heat for Production and Advanced Applications of the IEA Solar Heating and Cooling Programme. It includes 155 solar process heat projects (as of May 2015) with a total solar thermal capacity of 101 MWth.
